Compliment slips? What are compliment slips?
Surprising at it may seem to anyone in the print or design world, “What are compliment slips” is a question we’ve been asked more than once. It’s true that compliment slips and even printed letterheads might be seen by some new businesses as unnecessary, but actually, our digital world makes them more important than ever. Think about it. How often do you receive a hand-written letter? With so much correspondence taking place via email or social media a handwritten note is guaranteed to get your attention and they’re a great addition to the range of print you can offer your clients.
What are compliment slips used for?
Traditionally sent with products, brochures or anything requested by existing or potential customers, compliment slips add a personal touch to any transaction, especially if they include a written note. They create a human interaction you just don’t get with email or the printed word and that leads to better relationships – and more business.
How to write a compliments slip
How or what you write on your compliments slip is up to you but a short and sweet note is perfect. It might simply say “Thanks for the business” or “Good luck with your new venture”. If you know the recipient a little better you might make the note slightly more personal. Anything that shows they’re more important than just another business transaction will make a big difference to how they view you and your service.
What size are compliment slips?
Compliment slips are usually 1/3 A4 so they’re the same width as your letterheads and can follow the same design although they can also be printed A6 or postcard size.
What makes a good compliment slip?
It’s easy to make a good compliment slip. The design elements are often identical to the company letterhead along with the words “With compliments”. Of course there’s no law that says they must follow the letterhead design, but the branding and colours should be consistent with other marketing. The best compliment slips have a simple design with plenty of space for a written message. However, they can be printed on both sides and some businesses use the reverse for further promotion.
